Roger Edwin Middleton was born November 24, 1906, in the old family home in Eagle Grove, the son of Samuel and Etta James Middleton. He attended the Eagle Grove schools, where he participated in sports, and in football particularly. He was graduated from high school with the class of 1924, after which he was associated with his father at the Maplewood Dairy and in farming. He continued in farming for the remainder of his life.
On March 3, 1928, he was united in marriage to Mary Lovrien of Eagle Grove, in the new Methodist Church. Their marriage was the first service held in the church. For the past 32 years he has lived on the same Troy Township farm which is located near the site where the old covered bridge was located. Roger was always interested in all forms of nature and outdoor life, particularly in Indian Lore and artifacts. He was an ardent follower of all local sporting events. Roger was a faithful member of the Methodist Church and at the time of his death was serving on the Board of Trustees.
On March 28, Roger passed away at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge where he had been a patient for 10 weeks. At the time of his death he was 62 years, 4 months and 4 days of age. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mary; his son and daughter-in-law, Harold L. and Mary Morgan Middleton; and his four grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Bruce Middleton, Burdette Middleton; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Middleton, Eagle Grove and Lura, Mrs. Leonard Midland, West Madison, Wisc.
In addition to his church membership, Roger was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 31, at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Forbes officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
