Elizabeth Ann “Skeeter” Oleson, 85, of Dows died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City after a long illness. Memorial services for Elizabeth “Skeeter” Oleson will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, 109 North Eskridge in Dows. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Elizabeth Ann “Skeeter” Oleson was born March 19, 1932 in Dows, Iowa. Her parents were Veterinarian Dr. Laurence “Doc” and Faith Oleson. She graduated from Dows High School, attended several colleges, and graduated from Grinnell College with an English Major and Physical Education Minor. Skeeter taught at several schools, but ended her teaching career at Niles North High School in Skokie, Illinois. Upon retiring from teaching, Skeeter returned to her home town of Dows and purchased and helped run The Spinning Wheel bicycle shop in Iowa Falls.

Skeeter loved animals and often helped Doc on his Veterinary calls. She loved her herd of ponies and always had at least one dog, particularly Vizslas. Skeeter loved going to movies, skiing, bicycling, traveling, visiting art exhibits, visiting cousin Sarah Tassinari at the farm, and socializing with “The Group” and her many family members and friends.

Skeeter was faithful to her Hawkeyes and finally saw her Cubs win a World Series. Skeeter loved golfing in Dows and playing tournament games with “The Swingers:” Marlo, Cec and Pam. She had a great sense of humor and told a good joke. Skeeter will be remembered for her outgoing personality which drew everyone in, her occasional pithy remarks, her love for Dows and her generous gifts to those in need.

Skeeter was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by sisters Mary Lou Nuessen, Katherine “Boofer” Leffler, Faith “Sunny” (husband Roy) Enriquez and; along with numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
