Doris Jean Sharp, 80, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2017, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 517 SW Des Moines St., in Ankeny. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday at the church. Doris will be laid to rest in her hometown of Clarion, Iowa on Friday at Evergreen Cemetery.

Doris Jean Hinton was born May 1, 1937, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Taylor and Beulah (Black) Hinton. She grew up in the Holmes and Clarion area where she received her education. On July 21, 1957, Doris was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Eugene Sharp. The couple made their home in Ankeny and have been blessed with three children, Brian, Carol, and David. Doris made her career as a bookkeeper with Cory's Hardware and Appliances, Sportsman's of Ankeny, Leisure Pool and Spa, and later retiring from Wal-Mart.

Doris was the family matriarch. She loved cooking, baking, and especially loved hosting family holidays. She also enjoyed attending the many events in which her grandchildren participated. Most of all, Doris treasured time spent with Bob, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who will all miss her deeply.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Bob; children, Brian (Deb) Sharp, Carol (Dennis) Thompson, and David (Cheri) Sharp; grandchildren, Melissa (Charles) Chappell, Ryan (Jessica) Sharp, Stephanie (Chris) Draper, Melanie (Jacob) Bellville, Matt (Jeni) Thompson, Anne (Chris) Chapman, and Tyler Middleton; 15 great-grandchildren, soon to be 16, and siblings, Jerry Hinton and Thelia Borel. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jim Hinton.
