John Daniel Burrs was born June 16, 1935, in Goodell, Iowa, the son of Martin Henry and Clara (Christie) Burrs. He attended country school and then graduated from Goodell High School. Following his education he farmed with his parents. Growing up, John's shyness finally met his match and a persistent school girl caught his eye. On Aug. 8, 1957, John was united in marriage to Sue Ayers in Algona, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Goodell and Kanawha area before moving to Corwith to farm. In 1971 John switched from raising milk cows to having pigs, which he raised farrow to finish until 1994. John was a hard worker who enjoyed being busy creating a variety of things. He built Go-Carts, mini bikes, farrowing crates, snow blowers and was an excellent welder. Together, with the help of his family, they tore down corn cribs and built their current house in the 1980s.
Besides being a hard worker, he was a humble and honest person. He would often go out of his way to help his neighbors and others in need. John was also an excellent husband and father, always showing them how much he loved them with a hug or a kiss. After dinner, he would always have at least two of his children on his lap while he relaxed. He would even let his girls practice putting hair clips in his hair. Family was important to him, and he especially enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.
John Daniel Burrs, 81, of Corwith, died Monday May 22, 2017, at the Hancock County Hospital, Britt, Iowa, with his loving wife of 60 years, Sue, by his side.
