Richard (Dick) Lester Voss, the youngest son of seven siblings, of Albert and Amy (Johnson) Voss, was born on February 9, 1936, on the family farm south of Eagle Grove, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1954. Dick served in the Iowa Army National Guard, Company C, 747th Maintenance Battalion.

Dick met his future wife, Sharon Sweeney at the Larimar Ballroom in Fort Dodge and they were united in marriage on April 27, 1956. Dick was known as a skillful carpenter and worked for Sadler Construction for almost 50 years. He enjoyed all sports but mainly cheered for the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, as well as the Iowa Hawkeyes. During the summers, he enjoyed the anticipation of his home grown tomatoes and cucumbers. In recent years, he and Sharon spent winters in Brownsville, Texas.

Dick was an avid card, domino and cribbage player. He got great joy challenging his daughters and grandchildren in the card game called, Up and Down the River. "No Binks!" Dick was a kind and positive person, always seeing the bright side of all situations and was known for giving the best and biggest hugs.

Dick died on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames from acute leukemia, at the age of 81 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Doris Voss Will. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Voss of Eagle Grove; three daughters, Cindy Humphreys (Brooks) of Omaha, NE, Sandy Hanson of East Lansing, MI and Valerie Hanson (Mike) of Eagle Grove; seven grandchildren: Connor (Nicole) and Kate Humphreys, Luke (Emily) and Jaclynn (Lance) Hanson, Jessica Brogan (Patrick), Matt (Lauren) and Danielle Hanson; six great-grandchildren and siblings: Marvin Voss of Woolstock, Leonard Voss of Eagle Grove, Mary Sadler of Eagle Grove, Marge Ellsworth of Carmel, IN and Janis Turk of St. Charles, IL.
