Ronald Robert Derscheid, the son of Robert and Esther (Madson) Derscheid, was born on February 22, 1940, on the family farm west of Eagle Grove, Iowa. He attended country school and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1958. Ron served in the Army National Guard.

On February 24, 1968, Ron was united in marriage with Ellen C. Mitchell at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. The couple made their home and farmed on Ron's family farm west of Eagle Grove. Ellen preceded him in death on July 7, 2008.

Ron was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was a skillful farmer and received the Wright County Outstanding Farmer Award. Ron enjoyed bowling, fishing, snowmobiling, raising hogs and cattle, sports and going to the races in Webster City with his son, Dave. He truly loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Ron passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, Iowa at the age of 77 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Survivors include his son, David Derscheid (Shannon Moss); grandchildren, Jadon Moss, Chesney Derscheid and Noah Derscheid; sisters, Phyllis Melchert, and Susan Derscheid; brother, Bruce Derscheid and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
