Clifford R. Nelson, 86, of Eagle Grove, died Saturday, April 15, 2005, at the Israel Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father Jack Flaherty officiating. Burial was held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Clifford Raymond Nelson was born on December 29, 1918 in Eagle Grove, the son of Frank and Ollie Mae Moseley Nelson. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946 as a first class carpenter's mate. He came back home to Eagle Grove where he met and married Lucille Thul on June 14, 1947. They made their home there where they raised four children. Cliff made a living as a craftsman carpenter, specializing in finished cabinets. In later years, they spent their winters in Mission, Texas. Cliff was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, boating and hunting, watching sports, and playing pool. He was active in Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Senior Citizens Center. He was a devoted husband and father, and enjoyed being around family and friends. His faithful companion Sparky was by his side until the end. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; a son, Ronald Nelson, of Cedar Rapids; daughters Roberta Angell of Huxley; Shirley Deepsong, of Albert Lea, Minn.; and Mary Harris, of Marshalltown; two sisters, Margaret Laberto, of Des Moines; and Vesta Anderson, of Renwick, and 11 grandchildren. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
