January 30, 1854 ---- October 14, 1944

Mrs. Mary Gertrude Flower was born in Norway on the 30th of January, 1854 and came with her parents to this country when a child of 8 years. She lived in Story county and was married to William Scott Flower in 1875. To their home came six children, Mrs. Rhoda Waddell who passed away in 1936; Mrs. Julia Mead of Eagle Grove; William J. Flower, Bagley, Mrs. George Opheim, Thor, Paul and Walter of Eagle Grove. The family came to Eagle Grove in 1888.

She united with the Methodist church in 1908 and was a faithful member to the time of her death. She was a member of the Woman's Relief Corp here and was chaplain of the corp for fifteen years. She is the next to the last widow of a civil war veteran in Eagle Grove.

She was in good health up to 10 days before her death. She had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Mead since February, 1937. She slept peacefully away at Mrs. Mead's home about 6 p. m. Saturday, October 14, 1944. She leaves to mourn her going 5 children, 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

She sang her favorite song, "Tis So Sweet to Trust In Jesus" up almost to the time of her going and is now resting in that trust.
