October 31, 1950 --- April 30, 2017

Timothy J. Hammen, 66, of Thornton passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Bergen Mercy Hospital in Omaha. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church, 608 2nd Avenue North East in Clarion, with Father Jerry Blake officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Timothy Jerome Hammen was born October 31, 1950 in Jefferson, Iowa to Earl Sr. and Corene (Reding) Hammen. His family relocated to Clarion in 1966. While in high school, he worked at the Eagle Grove Sale Barn. Tim graduated from Clarion High School in 1969. Following high school, Tim studied drafting at Iowa Central Community College. He then joined the Air National Guard for four years and went to work for Henning Steel Company.

In 1974, Tim met Carol Johnson and they combined their families. Tim started and trucking company and Hammen Construction and built numerous buildings all over Iowa. He sold both companies and, together, they bought a small hobby farm. Tim worked at Eaton Corporation in Belmond until his retirement last fall. His hobby was raising cattle; sale barns with the best cattle is where he spent much of his time. His last moments were spent in Omaha at a sale barn doing something he was very passionate about.

Tim is survived by the love of his life Carol Johnson; children, Judy, Shirley, David, and Corey; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson, and two more great-grandbabies due this fall; sisters, Jeanne (Gale) Hodson, Kathy (Tony) Hogle, Elaine Kolb and friend Scott Smith; sister-in-law Carmel Hammen; brothers, Dave Hammen, Rick (Sue) Hammen, Ed (Mary) Hammen; nieces and nephews, Alan and Chris Ann, Brenda and Dan, Renae and Rob, Nicole and Ben, Shaun and Laura, Eric and Nikki, Kelly and Adam, Katie and Brent, Matt, Sami, Meghan and Jer, Kelsey, Kenzie, and Vanessa; and many other family and friends. Tim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl Hammen Jr. (May 1, 2017); and brother-in-law, Vance Kolb.
