Louis August Pinkele, the son of Jules F. and Helene (Hazemann) Pinkele, was born on May 15, 1918, in rural Woolstock, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, attending country school at Troy Township. On September 9, 1943, Louis was united in marriage with Geneva Gearhart at Eagle Grove. The couple made their home and farmed near Woolstock until 1952 when they moved north east of Eagle Grove and continued farming until his retirement in 1983.

Louis was a member of the United Methodist Church and Ban de la Roche (Woolstock French Club). He enjoyed gardening, fishing, raising chickens, collecting tractors and teasing the grandchildren.

Louis passed away on Monday, May 1, 2017, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove at the age of 98 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geneva; son, Douglas Pinkele; sisters, Adel Duitscher, Dorothy Michalson, Elise Pinkele and Yvonne Skadburg; grandson, Adam Pinkele and great-grandchildren, Brenna Covel and Brandon Schumann. Survivors include his children, Donnalee Gonzalez and husband Rafael of Des Moines and Donald Pinkele and wife Louise of Clear Lake; daughter-in-law, Jeanine Pinkele of Eagle Grove, sister, Evelyn Warmbier of Emmetsburg, eight grandchildren: John, Jim, Lisa, Jeana, Angel, Jules, Lacey, and Andrew (Andy) and twenty great-grandchildren: Marissa, Devon, Kailee, Amaya, Diego, Kaiya, Dylan, Dallas, Samantha, Jolet, Jessica, Josh, Jeremy, Jules, Riley, Simeon, Corbin, Cash, Kaiser and Eva and two great great-grandchildren, Jennesa and Javen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Heather Dorr officiating. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
