Eugene N. Fisher, 80, of Geneseo, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Hammond-Henry Long Term Care Unit, Geneseo, Illinois. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at the Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. Private inurnment will be at the North Cemetery in Geneseo. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Gene Fisher Memorial Fund. Per Eugene's request, cremation rites have been accorded.
Gene was born March 16, 1937, in Sac City, Iowa, the son of Robert and Lois Ellis-Fisher. He was a graduate of Renwick High School. He married Shirley Haugland on June 10, 1956, in Renwick, Iowa. Shirley passed on Oct. 31, 2014.
Gene had been employed for several years at Smith Farm Supply; he later farmed in Loraine and Yorktown Townships. After farming, he worked for Ted Blean, Michlig Ag, as well as helping as a farm hand for Bill Smith. Gene enjoyed wood working, fishing, camping, gardening and flowers. He collected caps, did tractor pulls, and drove stock cars in his younger days. Gene loved spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
Eugene is survived by his daughters, Debra Carpenter (Glenn Johnson), Prophetstown, and Denise (Mike) Ward, Geneseo; his grandchildren, Brad (Joleen) Carpenter, Samantha (Curt) Busse, Shauna Fisher, Andy (Mallorie) Ward and Sarah (Kristian) Anderson; eight great-grandchildren (and one on the way); his brothers, Keith (Marilyn) Fisher, South Carolina, Harlan (Sue) Fisher, Mendota, and Robert (Betty) Fisher, Minnesota; and his very special friend, Bev Lewis and her family. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; his son, Michael Fisher; and his daughter, Julie Fisher.
