Marian Anita Meschke
March 1, 1934 ---- April 17, 2017Marian (Tonjes) Meschke was born March 1, 1934 in New Hartford, Iowa, the daughter of Rudolf and Hilda (Reil) Tonjes. She graduated from Hudson High School in Hudson, Iowa and continued her education at Eagle Grove Jr College and Northern Iowa State University where she majored in Elementary Education. She taught third grade in Buffalo Center Iowa from 1953 to 1955.
On June 17, 1955 she married Maurice Meschke of Owatonna, in Lime Springs, Iowa. She taught third grade at Medford Public School from 1956 to 1960 while continuing her education at Mankato State University. She also worked at Schultz' Family Store from 1978 to 1987 and then at Colonial Insurance Company of California from 1987 1o 1994.
Marian was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Owatonna where she participated in choir, bell choir, women mission groups, and working at funerals and other church related events. She also enjoyed family time together, knitting, reading, and their trips to Mesa, Arizona in the winter. In the fall of 2006 Marian moved with her husband to Mesa, Arizona full time.
Marian is survived by her husband, Maurice; one son, Michael (and Karen) Meschke from San Jose, CA; two daughters, Michele Meschke from Rogers, MN and Marci (and Marty) Dimas from Evergreen, CO; two brothers, Arnie Tonjes from Elma, Iowa and Edward (and Joanne) Tonjes from Peoria, IL; three granddaughters in CA, Stephanie Le, Melissa, and Monica and several nieces and nephews. Marian was preceded in death by her father, mother, and sister.
