Ellis J. Anderson, 87, of Story City died April 19, 2017, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery near Randall.
Ellis was born on March 26, 1930, in Clarion to Otto and Pearl (Boynton) Anderson. He served in the U.S. Army for two years in Berlin, Germany. He taught vocal music in Ackley, Emmetsburg and Eagle Grove. After retiring from teaching, he owned Yantis-Anderson Clothing in Story City. After selling the store, he then worked at the U.S. Post Office in Randall. He was a member of Elim Lutheran Church and directed the choir for many years. He was instrumental in organizing the Randall Fine Arts, which featured ragtime music.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Thompson, of Story City; and nephews, Bruce (Lori) Thompson, Dennis (Patricia) Thompson, both of Jewell, Terry (Linda) Thompson, of Story City, and Douglas Thompson, of Jewell; and several grandnieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Soderstrum Funeral Home in entrusted with arrangements.
