MRS. J. DELOS REED IS CALLED BY DEATH
Prominent Woolstock Woman Passes Away at Family Home After Much SufferingMrs. J. Delos Reed died yesterday afternoon at 5:20 o'clock at the family home in Woolstock at the age of 35 years.
Mabel Shearer, the daughter of M. U. and Martha Shearer, was born 35 years ago at Fennimore, Wisconsin, where the family still reside. She came to Webster City some sixteen years ago and was a teacher in the rural schools. On Feb. 26, 1898, she was united in marriage to J. Delos Reed. To them four children were born; Ida, Hiel, Helen and Robert. All except little Heil, who died seven weeks ago at the age of ten years, are left motherless. Mrs. Reed has been ill since last September, but not confined to her bed until the past few weeks. Everything that medical skill and good nursing could devise to stay the progress of what proved to be an incurable disease, seemed of little avail, and her suffering has been very great. Through it all her wonderful patience and thoughtfulness for the comfort of her dear ones will be a blessed memory to them, and in spite of their deep grief, they can be thankful that to her has come peace and rest.
Mrs. Reed has been a consistent member of the Methodist church for many years. She was a devoted wife, an ideal mother; and a faithful friend. The sympathy of the entire community has been with this afflicted family for many weeks.
Besides the husband and children, the deceased leaves a mother - the father having died three months ago - a brother, five sisters and many friends to mourn her death. Her mother and two sisters have been with her much of the time during her illness. One sister, Miss Florence Shearer, is a teacher in the public schools at Boone. The brother, L. M. Shearer, resides at Madison, Wisconsin, one sister Mrs. H. C. Henderson at Fennimore, Wisconsin, and the other, Mrs. Johnson, at La Crosse.
The funeral will be held in Woolstock Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock, with burial in Graceland cemetery, this city. Complete arrangements, however, have not yet been made.

Mrs. J. Delos Reed of Woolstock passed this life March 24th at her home, after a long illness. She had lived on earth thirty-six years, having been born August 2, 1876. She was united in marriage with J. Delos Reed on the 20th of February fifteen
years ago. The funeral was held in the Methodist church at Woolstock, Rev. Welch having charge of the services and Woolstock choir furnished the music. The interment was in Webster City cemetery.Let this brief notice suffice. She left her earthly abode and has entered into the peace and reward prepared for her. We pause in our dally avocations to mourn the untimely taking off of our loved ones and if we gaze on the dark side of the picture, particularly sad indeed is the departure of this mother since she leaves three children at tender years as well as her husband to long for the departed one. But is death sad? We do not bewail the rising of the morning morning sun, or the unceasing return of the seasons, and why should we bewail the natural end of mankind we should not unless our reflections show us a misspent life. It is not how long we live but how well.
Mabel was a true hearted, earnest, devoted wife and mother, loved by her neighbors and all who knew her and came in contact with her. Her memory is cherished, why mourn for her departure? She has gone for a time we shall see her and know her again. A little faith only is needed to lift the curtain which shuts out from mortal's gaze the future, lifting it we see a re-united family with no vacant chairs, no absent ones, all again gathered through the wonderful life of our blessed Christ. There is no death, let us then be patient during the absence of our loved one. It is not for long.
Besides the husband and children, the deceased leaves a mother the father having died five months ago a brother, five sisters and many friends to mourn her death. Her mother and two sisters have been with her much of the time during her illness. One sister, Miss Florence Shearer, is a teacher in the public schools at Boone. The brother, L. M. Shearer, resides at Madison, Wisconsin, a sister Mrs. H. C. Henderson at Fennimore, Wis., Mrs. Johnson at LaCrosse, Wis. Vera, a teacher at Mauston, Wis., and Irma, a teacher at Edgerton, Wis. May the merciful God temper the wind for the children, husband and relatives left behind.
