Maxine Louise Howard, 90, passed away February 1, 2017 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm, Monday, February 6, at Iles Westover Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Glen Echo Christian Church. Interment will be at Masonic Cemetery.

Maxine was born April 26, 1926 in Rowan, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Alta (Allen) Burt. On June 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Elmer W. Howard in Rowan. They made their home in Des Moines. Maxine worked for Principal Financial Group for 25 years. She retired in 1988. Maxine was a longtime and active member of Glen Echo Christian Church. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Women's Auxiliary, the Shrine women's widowed lunch group The Nobelle's and the Merle Hay Mall Walkers. She enjoyed golf, walking and volunteering at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Maxine is survived by her daughter, Linda (Martin) Kaiser of Algonquin, IL; son, Michael Howard of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Gregory (Maria) Kaiser and Sarah Howard; great grandchildren, Andrew Kaiser and Kaitlyn Kaiser. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; her brother, Jim Burt and a granddaughter, Meredith Kaiser. Memorials may be directed to Glen Echo Christian Church or H.C.I.
