Harold P. Evans, 91, Stratford, a former Stanhope resident, died Thursday, July 1, 1999 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Foster Funeral Home with Revs. Ray Block and David Fernlund officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery, southeast of Stanhope. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Monday and prior to the services on Tuesday.

Harold Price Evans, son of George and Jennie Frakes Evans, was born March 12, 1908 on a farm near Woolstock. He attended rural schools. He started farming with his father and brother. On Feb. 10, 1937, he married Cora Mae Masterson at Corwith. The couple farmed at Corwith, later moving to Woolstock, then to Stanhope. He was a driver at Hove Trucking for 13 years and a dispatcher for 20 years, retiring in 1970. In 1994, he moved to the Stratford Care Center.

He is survived by his wife, Cora Mae, daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Van De Pol of Des Moines, Kaye and Jack Klingborg of Cherokee, Rosemary and Michael Shaw of Gallatin, TX., Dick Evans, Winterset, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, brothers, Penry, John, Millard, George and Edward Evans, and sister, Lottie.

He was a former member of the Christian Life Center in Webster City, mayor of Stanhope for 17 years, a member of the Stanhope Senior Citizens and served on several county committees.
