Mike Reyna, 83, of Slater, [Missouri] died Saturday, February 25, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Slater United Methodist Church, with Pastor Matt Arni officiating. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Pallbearers will be Brian Broadbent, Khayman Reyna, Steve Evins, Adam Case, James Kent, Nathan Case, Seth Denato, and Dan Frasier. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Slater United Methodist Church in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born April 26, 1933 in Clarion, Iowa, he was the son of the Marcelino and Aurelia Costro Reyna. On October 27, 1984 in Clarion, he married Darlene Simmons Denato, and she survives of the home. Also surviving are four sons, Mike Reyna, III of Dows, Iowa, Allen Reyna and his wife April of Iowa Falls, Iowa, John Reyna and his wife Susan of Kansas City, and Chad Reyna and his wife Erin of Des Moines, Iowa; two daughters, Tina Reyna Case of Chesterton, Indiana, and Jodi Reyna Broadbent of Tucson, Arizona; four step-children, Dan Denato and his wife Deb of Rock Island, Illinois, Diana Drumm and her husband DeWayne of Moline, Illinois, Tony Denato and his wife Sheri of Moline, Illinois, and Joann Ericson and her husband Fred of Viola, Illinois; 33 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five brothers, John P. Reyna of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Frank Reyna and his wife Georgia Ann of Walnut, Iowa, Gambino Reyna of Clarion, Iowa, Richard Reyna of Higginsville, and Dan Reyna and his wife Nancy of Clarion, Iowa; a sister, Angel Reyna Fisher of Ames, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Dee Dee Reyna of Clarion, Iowa. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyliss Reyna Waddell and her husband Howard, and Alice Reyna Stumpf and her husband Francis; a brother, Joe Reyna; and a grandson, Michael Broadbent.
Mr. Reyna was a member of the Slater United Methodist Church and was actively involved in the Slater United Methodist Men. He was a 1952 graduate of Clarion High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a member of the American Legion Post # 78 in Slater. He worked for the Rock Island Rail Road, Chicago, Missouri & Western Rail Road, and Gateway Western Rail Road for 47 years, retiring in 1995 as Track Supervisor. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Slater Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, and the Salvation Army. He enjoyed wood working, gardening, fishing, traveling, and attending his Navy ship reunions. He was a good family man, and had a dry sense of humor.
