Terry William Hobson, was born April 17, 1948 to Letha and Bill (William) Hobson and grew up in the Oakland area. He died February 18, 2017 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames from complications from a stroke, at the age of 68 years, 10 months, and 1 day. He was the second of seven children and was very close to his siblings. Terry graduated from Oakland High School in 1966 and enjoyed farm work. He attended Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in Agriculture Business in 1970. He then attended the University of Nebraska and earned a teaching certificate. He student-taught at Rock County High School in Bassett, Nebraska.

In October 1971, Terry married Jerrine Ream. From this marriage came his children Heather and John. Terry taught agriculture at Stuart-Menlo High School. He moved back to Oakland in 1972, where he taught agriculture at Oakland High School as well as Veterans Farm Management in Council Bluffs. In 1974, Terry began work in sales for Northrup King (NK) Corporation. Terry worked for NK for 31 years, which took him to California, Colorado and back to Iowa. Most recently Terry earned his real estate license and worked with Farmers National Company.

Terry enjoyed working on his lawn and gardening and took pleasure in helping his neighbors with his riding tractor. He relished serving as a 4-H judge and as a Trustee on the Iowa 4-H Foundation Board. He was a member of A.R.K. Lodge #335 A.F. & A.M. He remained a loyal Iowa State Cyclones fan and had fun watching his grandchildren grow up. Terry enjoyed visiting the mountains in Colorado. He will be remembered by his ability to start up a conversation with anyone and willingness to help.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws John and Bette (Pippitt) Ream, sister-in-law Mary Quintero, and brother-in-law Gary Komrofske. Terry is survived by his wife Jerrine, daughter Heather Hobson of Denver, CO; son John (Mary) Hobson of Newport Beach, CA; grandchildren Coleman and Fiona; brothers and sisters Sally Komrofske of Omaha, NE, Richard (Pam) of Albert Lea, MN, Deborah (Dave) McDaniel of Indianola, IA, Dwight (Denise) Hobson of Oakland, Rosa (Charles) Dent of Audubon, IA, Patty Hibler of Louisville, NE, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy and Jim Grein of Shawnee, Oklahoma. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Macedonia Cemetery at a later date. A masonic service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, at the Oakland United Methodist Church, followed by visitation with the family until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 4H foundation, Shriners, or Alzheimer's foundation. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is in charge of arrangements.

Terry Hobson, 68, Ames, a former Belmond resident, died February 18, 2017 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. Services were held February 22 in Oakland, IA. He is survived by his wife Jerrine of Ames; daughter Heather of Denver, CO; son John of Newport Beach, CA; two grandchildren; and two brothers and four sisters.
