Craig L. Watne, 68, Belmond, lost his battle with cancer on February 3, 2017 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond. Services were held February 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. Interment was at the Belmond Cemetery.

Craig Lynn was born April 3, 1948 to John and Evelyn (Case) Watne and grew up in the Klemme/ Goodell area, graduating from Belmond High School in 1966. He served the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Korea. In August 1971 Craig married Connie Thompson, and to that union four children were born. He farmed with his father and brother Ted until the mid-1980’s. He was then employed by Eaton Corporation, retiring with 25 years of service.

Craig enjoyed woodworking projects, gardening, spending time with his dog Maxx, watching his children grow up, and spending time with his nine grandchildren. He will be remembered by his unique sense of humor and willingness to help.

He was preceded in death by wife Connie; parents; father and mother-in-law Richard and Florence (Norby) Thompson; sisters Marcia (Earl) Kolbeck and Susan Halfpop; and sisters-in-law Betty Watne, Barb Watne and Ramona Peller.  Craig is survived by son Jeremy (Jennifer) Watne of Charlotte, NC; daughters Michelle (Grant) Simon of Bartlett, IL, Andrea Johnson (Brad Anderson) of Dayton, and Rachael Watne (Jake McWherter) of West Des Moines; grandchildren Drew, Luke and Brooke Watne, Kyle, Jordan and Colin Johnson, and Emily, Violet and Charlie Simon; brothers Jon Jay and Ted Watne, both of Belmond; sisters Phebe (Charles) Soma of Belmond and Norma (Jerry) McNertney of Ankeny; brothers-in-law Leland Halfpop of Goodell, Doug (Barb) Thompson of Kanawha, and Mark (Leah) Peller of Mesa, AZ; and sister-in-law Kris (Dave) Mehmen of West Des Moines.
