Kenneth Orville Halfpap, the son of John Ferdinand and Carolina (Lena) Gartz Halfpap, was born Dec. 25, 1935, on the family farm in rural Palsville, east of Belmond. Ken began his faith life as a child in the Immanuel Reformed Church where he was baptized and confirmed. During his youth Ken was active in band, 4-H, and was a member of Farm Bureau for young people. He attended Belmond area schools and graduated in 1954. Following high school he served in the National Guard from 1958-1963. He served stateside for his tenure and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood as a cook.

Kenneth was united in marriage to Muriel Mensink on May 16, 1959, at the United Methodist Church, Cherry Grove, MN. The couple made their home in Belmond, where their marriage was blessed with 5 children: Jan, Michelle, David, Heather, and Angela.

Throughout his life he was self-employed in many different areas spending the majority of his life in sales. He sold farm machinery, tools, trailers, and novelty items. He was passionate about working hard and often said his work was his vacation. He never truly retired, he was working up until the last three weeks of his life.

Ken truly enjoyed music and was particularly skilled at playing the organ and piano. He also enjoyed completing the daily newspaper crossword, reading farm and agriculture news publications, and reading the magazine, Reminisce. Ken's successes were many. The most meaningful to him was his nearly 58 years of marriage to Muriel and the legacy they left to their children and their families.

His memory will forever be cherished by his family including: his wife, Muriel Halfpap, Belmond, IA; son Jan Halfpap, Belle Mead, NJ; daughter Michelle (Donnell) Sorenson, Belmond, IA; son David (Joy) Halfpap, Clear Lake, IA; and daughters Heather (Joe) McCarthy, Frankfort, IL, and Angela (Chris) McDowell, Thornton, IA; a sister Ruth Pals, Belmond, IA; a brother-in-law Carl Kuhlers, Belmond, IA; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends and acquaintances. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters: Phyllis Boelman, Jessie Thayer, and Shirley Kuhlers, and Marvyl, an infant sister.
