Elmer Olam Haaland

Elmer O. Haaland was born on February 14, 1888, near Cambridge, Story County, Iowa, the son of Solomon J. and Karen Elizabeth (Shefveland) Haaland. He was baptized by Rev. H. C. Holm and confirmed by Rev. L. O. Fossum in 1903 at Slayton, Minnesota.

His death was caused by a coronary heart attack. He passed away January 10, 1951, at 4:15 p.m. at his farm home near Clarkfield.

With his parents he moved from his birthplace to their farm home near Renwick, Iowa, at the age of three years. In 1902 the family moved to Slayton, Minnesota. Later, in search of a new homestead, the family lived near Dawson for a year before moving to the Clarkfield community.

In 1913 he was united in marriage to Sarah Johanna Lund. To this union four children were born: Comfort (Mrs. Donald Quesnell), Erling Luther who died in infancy in 1919, Erling Stanley and Mavis. Besides his little son, he was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Oswald; and sisters: Sina Cunningham and Lenora Goodwin.

The greater part of his mature life was spent in the Clarkfield community where he was engaged in farming.

He leaves to mourn his departure a devoted wife and two daughters, Comfort and Mavis; and one son, Erling; four grandchildren: Bruce and Sharon Quesnell and Earl and Danny Haaland; three sisters: Mrs. Clara Cunningham of Roseburg, Oregon, Mrs. Marie Teig of Boyd, Minnesota, Mrs. Helen Anderson of Albany, California; five brothers: Joseph of Kenyon, Minnesota, Oswald of Clarkfield, Oliver of Marietta, Minnesota, Axel and Jewell of Cottonwood, Minnesota; besides a host of relatives and friends.
