Scott Eugene Strain, the son of Allen D. and Phyllis M. (McCormick) Strain, was born on March 9, 1941, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Eagle Grove, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1959. He attended the University of Iowa, studying graphic design. Scott was a graphic arts instructor for Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and owned his own graphic design business, Dynamic Type. After 40 years, he retired and returned to Eagle Grove. Scott was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove.

Scott passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017, at the Humboldt North Care Center, at the age of 75 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Strain and brother-in-law, Chuck Lackore. He is survived by his son, Smith Strain and wife Pam of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Peggy Lackore of Clarion, Sandi Baldus and husband John of Alleman and Kay Chamberlin and husband Joe of Eagle Grove; sister-in-law, Charlene Strain of Mason City; grandchildren, Parker and Kinsley Strain and nieces and nephews: Steve Strain, Tony Baldus and wife Michele, Tracy Hawbaker and husband Mike, Kristal Anderson and husband Gary, Ed Lackore and wife Diane, Pam Harklau and husband Kent, Ryan Chamberlin and wife Rachel, Brent Chamberlin and Kerri Tweeten and husband Corey.

Visitation will be at 10:00 Thursday, January 12, 2017. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Eagle Grove. Lunch will be served immediately after the service. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
