Evelyn Owens, 98, of Gallatin formerly of Mountain View, MO, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Daviess County Nursing & Rehab in Gallatin. Friends may call after 11:00a.m. Thursday at McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin. Services will be held at 11:00a.m. Saturday, July 19 at Yarber Mortuary in Mountain View, MO. Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Mountain View. Memorial contributions may be made to the Will Norton Miracle Field, P.O. Box 701, Joplin, MO 64802, or donor’s choice in care of McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin.

Evelyn was born June 28, 1916, to William K. and Cora B. (Wilson) Clapsaddle in Corwith, Iowa. She graduated from Rich Hill High School. Evelyn married Evan Owens on February 6, 1937, in Rich Hill, MO, where the couple made their home and raised their family. Evelyn was employed at Angelica Garment Corporation in Mountain View where she dedicated 30 years of service, retiring in 1980. It was in her retirement years where Evelyn found her love of bowling; averaging a score of 155 at 80 years old! She also enjoyed golf and traveling before her health declined forcing her to move to Joplin and later to Gallatin.

Evelyn was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary member, IOOF (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) Auxiliary Rebecca Lodge member, and was also a member Eastern Star. Evelyn was an excellent seamstress and was well known for her alteration skills. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. To know her was to love her. She will be greatly missed.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Evan, sons Dwight and Dennis Owens, great grandson Will Norton, great-great granddaughter Lucy Morrison, two brothers and three sisters.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Laveda Norton and husband Richard of Joplin, MO; Madelyn Ledgerwood and husband Bob of Claremore, OK; Carol Weaver and husband Don of Gallatin, MO; Phyllis Hardcastle and husband Bob of Ballwin, MO; son Curtis Owens and wife Lila of Joplin, MO; 13 grandchildren including Anita Riley and husband Jeff of Gallatin MO; Toni Cox and husband David of Jamesport, MO; 9 great grandchildren including Mackenzie Morrison and husband Zack; Mitchell Riley and wife Amanda all of Gallatin, MO; 4 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
