MASON CITY - Agnes M. Clapsaddle, 97, of Mason City, died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City, with Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas/Athenian Study Club Rosary and a scriptural wake service. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Agnes M. Clapsaddle memorial fund.

Agnes was born on Feb. 11, 1904, in Belmond, Iowa, the daughter of Patrick and Mayme (Lister) Dillon. She graduated from Belmond High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She taught for one year in a country school and then moved to Corwith where she taught first grade.

In Corwith, Agnes met Robert J. Clapsaddle. They were married on June 7, 1927, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond. They operated a grocery store in Corwith for several years. Bob later went to work for the Standard Oil Company and they lived in Humboldt, Spencer, and Clarion. The couple moved to Mason City in 1942. For many years Agnes was manager of the fashion floor of Montgomery Ward in Mason City, and she later assisted her husband as manager of the Knights of Columbus Clubrooms.

Agnes was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Francis Circle. She was a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was an officer of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women and a past Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America. She belonged to the Athenian and Joyce Kilmer Study Clubs and several bridge clubs.

Agnes is survived by two children, Betty Lou Lapointe and her husband, Francis E., and Charles Clapsaddle, all of Mason City; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Major James and Major Andra Clapsaddle of the Azores, Kathy and Ward Isaacson, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Jeanne Clapsaddle, of Alden, Joseph and Karen Lapointe, of Mason City, Mary Jane Lapointe and Dr. Terry Kent of Indianapolis, Ind., Dr. Nancy Lapointe of Corpus Christi, Texas, John and Julie Lapointe of Robbinsdale, Minn., Judy and Steve Jennings of Mustang, Okla., Linda and Dean Asche, of St. Louis Park, Minn., Amy Lapointe of Yukon, Okla., Tim and Michelle Lapointe, of Mason City, and Tom and Valerie Lapointe, of Mason City; and 29 great-grandchildren. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Maurice Dillon; and three grandchildren, David Clapsaddle, Steven Clapsaddle, and Robert Lapointe. Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel.
