Funeral service for Eugene Kist 49, former Eagle Grove businessman, was held Tuesday morning at 9:30 in Sacred Heart church. Rev. Francis Phelan officiated at the requiem mass. Mr. Kist died Saturday morning at his home following a long illness and during the past year he was in and out of hospitals a number of times being treated for cancer.

He is survived by his wife, six children, Jerold and Mrs. Roger Johnson of Eagle Grove, Ronald of Webster City, Robert, Ricky and Diane at home and a daughter by a previous marriage, Betty, now Mrs. Herbert DeLano of Fonda. Other survivors are his mother Mrs. Francis Coddington, one brother, Leonard Kist of Lake Geneva, Wis., two sisters, Mrs. Claude Smith of Webster City, Mrs. Kenneth Kvale of Eagle Grove and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Kist, three brothers, Leo, Carl and Harold Kist and two sons who died in infancy.

He was a member of the Knight's of Columbus lodge. For many years Mr. Kist farmed 80 acres south of Eagle Grove and about nine years ago bought the Eagle Grove Ready Mix and Sand and Gravel Co. In December of 1961 he sold the business to Kermit Knutson and retired. With Mrs. Kist he spent a vacation in Florida during the winter and since returning his health had steadily failed. However he was able to spend a short time at his cottage on Lake Cornelia during July.

Rosary services were held Monday evening at the Kastler Funeral home. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.
