August 20, 1955 ----- October 31, 2016
“Weary of reading obituaries noting someone’s courageous battle with death, Steve wanted it known that his work here is done. He received a call, a sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time. His new mission is strictly to laugh, love, and celebrate his eternal life.”
Stephen Mark Dickman, 61, passed away on October 31, 2016, following a courageous battle of prostate cancer, at his home in Belmond, Iowa. He was born on August 20, 1955 in Waverly, Iowa to Fritz and Marcia (Merfeld) Dickman. Steve grew up in Clarksville, Iowa. After graduating high school in 1973, he began working at United Hydraulics in Waverly for three years. He later became a dairy farmer and married Cindee Martin in 1976, having three children, Joey, Charlie, and Abbee.
Steve started working at Eaton Corporation in Belmond in 1982, while raising his children in Thornton. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, playing catch, taking vacations, and coaching them in every sport imaginable. He was an inspiration to many athletes with the passion that he had for competition. A proud father, a hard worker, and a loving/thoughtful man is what he shall be remembered by.
Steve was united in marriage to Kelly (Halfpop) Dickman on October 14, 2013. They were happily married for three years while starting their life together in Belmond. Steve and Kelly were often found exploring the outdoors by riding their bikes, rollerblading, and taking long walks. They spent countless hours with their children and grandchildren which brought so much joy and happiness to their life.
Steve’s final occupation was with Jet Company as a supervisor in Humbolt, Iowa. He cared deeply about his co-workers and found himself extremely happy.
Steve was blessed with a large and loving family. He is survived by his wife, Kelly Dickman of Belmond, IA; two sons, Joey (Krista) Dickman of Meservey, IA and Charlie (Janna) Dickman of Thornton, IA; one daughter Abbe Dickman of Thornton, IA; two step-daughters, Whitney (Ryan) Graves of Bondurant, IA and Kaitlynn (Eric) Freese of Grundy Center, IA; step-son Tyson (Lindsay) Allen of Altoona, IA; two brothers Doug Dickman and Greg (Teri) Dickman of Clarksville, IA; one sister Roxann (Reggie) Boyce of Topock, AZ; mother Marcia Dickman of Clarksville, IA; ten grandchildren: Brecklyn, Preslee, Brylee, Maximus, Fynlee, Landon, Wesley, Bentley, Kaylor, and Wyatt.
