BLOOMINGTON, IL — Thelma E. Dixon, 96, of Bloomington, passed away at 10:37 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 29, 2016) at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal. Her celebration of life service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Davis Lodge (Lake Bloomington), 25449 Davis Lodge Road, Hudson. Family and friends are invited to stay following the ceremony to visit, reminisce and share stories about Thelma’s life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Advocate BroMenn Hospice Care.
Thelma was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Rockwell City, Iowa, to Frank and Gladys Michaels. She married Roger Dixon on June 14, 1939, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1982. She will be buried at his side at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City, Iowa.
Surviving are one son, Tim (Melissa) Dixon, Hudson; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Alfred Willert; two brothers, Glen and Paul Michaels; two sons, Michael and Jeffery Dixon; and one grandson, Lucas Wall.
Thelma was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomington. She and Roger were in the restaurant business for 43 years. Locally, they managed the Coachman Motel and owned the Coachman Restaurant. She was well-known for her cooking and provided many meals to a variety of local fraternities, sororities and also the priests of St. Mary’s in Bloomington. It was at the latter where she hung up her apron at the age of 83. She enjoyed spending time with family and loved playing a weekly Sunday morning game of blackjack with her son, Tim. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be sadly missed.
