Marjorie L. Emerson, 74, died at her home last Tuesday of cancer. She spent a lifetime demonstrating her love for mankind. Final memorial services were held Friday at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Rev. Scott Hall officiating. A family service and internment was held Friday morning. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

As a lifelong resident of Eagle Grove, Marjorie Emerson felt a closeness to the community which was manifested in her volunteer spirit. After her children were in school, she served as a volunteer aid to the trainable mentally handicapped classes in the Eagle Grove school system for a number of years. She was active in the Wright County Association for Retarded Children. The Wright County Fair was another recipient of her generous volunteer services. As a member of the Commission On Aging, she helped organize the Meals On Wheels program in Eagle Grove that delivered thousands of meals to shut-ins over the years. She served as its president until this year.

In 1975 she helped organize the Eagle Grove Historical Association which turned the historic Carnegie Library into the Eagle Grove Historical Museum which now houses an extensive collection of historical items pertaining to the Eagle Grove area. She served as the organization's president until her death. Recently the Eagle Grove City Council voted to name the Historical Association's building in her honor. In recognition of her philanthropic gift of her energy and time to volunteer work for others and her many volunteer roles, Marjorie Emerson was named recipient of the first Allbaugh Community Service Award in 1965. In the same spirit, she quietly performed many humanitarian deeds. She loved people and animals and hated to see them suffer. Her efforts to help both people and animals attested to her love for both.

She and her husband Orin were honored as the grand marshals of the Eagle Grove Centennial parade in 1981. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church and many organizations including the Troy Culture Club, Equality Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Eastern Star, White Shrine and P.E.O.

Marjorie Foll was born in Eagle Grove on May 5, 1914. She attended the Eagle Grove schools, graduating with the high school class of 1932. She attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and later served as secretary of the Eagle Grove School board. On Aug.19, 1941, she and Dr. Orin Emerson were married. She was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, Linda Sue; her parents, Fred and Jessie Foll; her brother Lee Foll. Survivors include her husband Orin of Eagle Grove, daughter Mary Lynne of Atlantic, Iowa, son Raymond of Mason City, five grandchildren and a nephew Gary Foll of Walnut Creek, California.
