June 26, 1860 --- May 3, 1950

Mrs. Rachel nee Behringer Neebel passed away from this earthly life on Wednesday, May 3, 1950 following almost a year of illness. Mrs. Neebel had attained the age of 89 years 10 months and 7 days.

Mrs. Neebel, the daughter of Christian and Marie Magdalena Behringer, was born in Wurttemberg, Germany on June 26, 1860. The deceased was baptized in the Christian faith as an infant in Germany and confirmed her faith as a young girl. Rachel Behringer came to America with her parents in 1864 to live in Freeport, Illinois. On September 16, 1883 Rachel Behringer and John Neebel were united in marriage at Waterloo, Iowa. Two children, a son and a daughter, were born to this union which lasted almost 53 years. For nine years Mr. and Mrs. Neebel lived in Black Hawk County, for eleven years they lived in Hancock County [Goodell], and then they moved to O'Brien County where they farmed for six more years. In 1910 Mr. and Mrs. Neebel retired from farming and moved into the town of Hartley.

Mrs. Neebel was a member of Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church during her life in O'Brien
County, and remained faithful and active until failing health forced her to remain at Home. Mrs. Neebel was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Her faith in God did not diminish, and time and again she affirmed her faith.

Mrs. Rachel Neebel was preceded in death by her husband, John Neebel, who passed away on August 30, 1936. She is survived by her son and daughter, Elmer Neebel and Mrs. Kate Olhausen, both of Hartley; by four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; by one sister-in-law, Mrs. William Neebel of Waterloo, and by many other relatives and friends.

Services were held at Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church Friday, May 5, 1950, Rev. B. H. Romanowski, pastor, officiating. Pallbearers were Wayne Tibbetts, Jerry Maguire, Donald Trojahn, Edward Olhausen, Henry Olhausen and Harry Williams.
