Elmer Neebel, the son of John and Rachel Behringer Neebel, was born August 2, 1884 in Black Hawk County, Iowa. His early years were spent at Goodell, Iowa where he was educated. At age nineteen he came to Hartley, Iowa. With the exception of one year at Parker, S.D. he had been a resident here since that time. He was united in marriage to Henrietta Olhausen at the bride's home in Hartley. Iowa on January 27, 1910. Elmer was very active in the community and his business interests were many. For thirty-two years he operated Neebel's cafe and for many years operated Neebel's Danceland with his sister. Katie. He was a charter and Life member of the Hartley-Chamber of Commerce, a life member of the Fire Department and was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and its Brotherhood.
He passed away at the Hartley Hospital January 24, 1974 at the age of 89. Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, who died in 1970. Left to cherish his memory are one sister. Katie Olhausen of Hartley, many nieces and nephews and his many friends. Services were held Monday, January 28 at 11:00 a. m. from the Trinity United Church of Christ. Reverend Bernard Sayler officiated. Casket bearers were Edward Olhausen, Lawrence Bethke, James Getting. Louis Buhrmann. Gary Tibbetts and Harold Lux. Honorary casket bearers were Ernest Wohlert. Adolf Henning. Paul Zinn, Pete Bracker, Harry Williams and Wilbert Fredericks. Burial was made at Pleasant View Cemetery, Hartley with Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
