Donald Charles Ahrens, 92, of Hampton, Iowa, formerly of Latimer, Iowa, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton. He was born on August 18, 1923, in Latimer, Iowa, to Walter and Wilhelmina (Schomburg) Ahrens. Don graduated from High School in Rowan, Iowa, in 1941. He served his country in the United States Navy. Don was united in marriage to Maxine Shaffer on August 27, 1946, in Pensacola, Florida. He was owner of Ahrens farm drainage. Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, gardening, being with his grandchildren and attending their events. He loved the earth-working to conserve the land or planting a garden or flowers were equally satisfying and gave him infinite pleasure. Don was a selfless, humble man who believed in hard work, kindness and completing whatever job he started. He taught his children and grandchildren the values of integrity, honesty and compassion for all.

Don is survived by his son Bill Ahrens of Willard, Missouri, son Bart and wife Pam Ahrens of Mahtomedi, Minnesota, son Boyd and wife Louise Ahrens of Kansas City, Missouri, son Bruce and wife Lois Ahrens of Solon, daughter Anne and husband Chuck Beddingfield of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, grandchildren Amani, Rob, Clint, Matt, Michael and Marcus and great-grandchildren Elliott, Cael, Hudson, Harper and Ainsley. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Wilhelmina, wife Maxine, brother Virgil, sister Mildred, daughter-in-law Kathy, as well as numerous relatives. Memorial contributions may be directed to Franklin County Pheasants Forever or Heifer International.
