Funeral services for Thomas Richard Wood, 93, Humboldt, were held Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1989 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove. Rev. Paul Schaedig conducted the 2:00 pm service. Interment was held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Mr Wood passed away Sunday, Jan 22 at the North Care Center, Humboldt. During the service the congregation sang, "Beautiful Savior." Kerry Amonson sang, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Rock of Ages" accompanied by Gwen Sandven. Bearers were Lloyd Larson, Robert Pat Brown, Kermit Spangler, Ogden Johnson, Ben Wooster and Joe Asche.

Thomas Richard Wood was born on Wednesday, March 20, 1895 at Huxley. He was the son of George and Betsy (Dobbe) Wood. Thomas attended schools in Eagle Grove. In 1917 he married Leatha Rose Crocher at Fort Dodge. The couple lived in Eagle Grove until moving to Dakota City in 1968. Mrs. Thomas [Wood] passed away in 1970. In 1979 Thomas moved to the care center. Thomas was employed with the Chicago North Western Railroad until 1932. He worked in the Lehigh coal mines until 1936. He later worked for Wright County Road Maintenance Crews. Thomas was a member of the Odd fellows Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Alvin Wood, North Care Center, Humboldt; daughter, Betty Larson, Humboldt; sister, Lillian Lageson, Fairmont, MN; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.

Thomas Richard Wood was born March 20, 1895, the son of George and Betsy Tomina Dobbe Wood, at Huxley, Iowa. He received his education at Eagle Grove.

Thomas was united in marriage to Leatha Rosella Crocher of Crystal Lake, on April 3, 1917 at Fort Dodge. The couple lived in Eagle Grove until moving to Dakota City in 1968. Leatha died in 1970. While in Eagle Grove, Thomas was employed by the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad until 1932. Then for a period of four years, he worked in the Lehigh Coal Mines. In 1936, he began work for the Wright County Road Maintenance Crew. He retired in 1960. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and also past member of the International Order of Odd Fellows.

Thomas Richard Wood died on the morning of January 22, 1989 at the North Care Center in Humboldt, Iowa.

He was preceded in death, by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Grace Strain; two infant daughters; seven brothers, Leonard, Ed, Anfin, James, Elmer, Bert and Sylvan; and two sons-in-law, Kenneth Strain and Irven Larson. He is survived by one son, Alvin, who is also living in the North Care Center; one daughter, Betty Larson, Humboldt; one sister, Lillian Lageson, Fairmont, Minn.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on January 24, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. The Rev.. Paul Schaedig officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
