May 26, 1861 ---- October 16, 1938

Relatives and friends learned Sunday of the death of John Ferguson, a former resident of Goldfield who was living with his daughter, Mrs. F. B. Samuels of Humboldt. The body was brought here Wednesday and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church at 2:30 with the Rev. John Haupt officiating. Interment was made in Glenwood Cemetery. All of his children were present at the funeral.

John Martin Ferguson was born in Ballymena, Ireland, in 1861, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Floyd B. Samuels in Humboldt, Iowa, on October 16, 1938, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 20 days. He was baptized and joined the Presbyterian Church in Toronto, Canada, when a young man. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Anguish, September 10, 1884, in Toronto, Canada, whom preceded him in death March 16, 1938. To this union were born eleven children; seven daughters and four sons. One son, Marvin, who passed away at the age of 14 years in 1923. Of the surviving children, the daughters are: Mrs. Joe Simon of Kanawha; Mrs. Fay Wilcox of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Mrs. Chas. T. Smith of Humboldt; Mrs. Everet Kesseth of Eagle Grove; Mrs. Hans Wallukait of Rutland; Mrs. George Madison of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Mrs. Floyd B. Samuels of Humboldt. The sons are Arthur of Webster City, Gladney of Ann Arbor and John of Fort Dodge; also five brothers: Arthur, Robert and William living in Ireland; Thomas of Galt, Canada; and Daniel of Portland, Oregon; and one sister, Elizabeth, living in Ireland; besides 29 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and a host of friends. Mr. Ferguson enjoyed good health until 2 years ago when he entered the hospital at Iowa City and received treatment for cancer, but was able to be up and around until six months ago. From that time on everything possible has been done for him by his loved ones. He was a very patient sufferer though all his illness believe that soon he would have rest which only his Master can give.

Though in words there's no relief
In your hour of deepest grief,
Yet this little thought we'd leave with you today —

Your loved one isn't dead, Only gently, sweetly led, To that fairer, better land of Far Away.
