Minnie Mae Babcock was born on April 30, 1922, the daughter of George and Mahala Gatliff Babcock near Dows, Iowa. She received her education in the Eagle Grove School System. She was united in marriage to James Russell Johnson on January 2, 1940 at Fairmont, Minnesota. The couple began their married lives in Eagle Grove before moving in 1942 to Portland, Oregon, where her husband was employed in the shipyards during World War II. They returned to Eagle Grove in 1945 where they remained all their married lives. She was employed as a cook for the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove. She retired after 17 years at Rotary Ann in December of 1992. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Mr. Johnson died on April 16, 1991.

Minnie Mae Johnson died at her home on Sunday, November 12, 1995, at the age of 73 years, 5 months, and 12 days. She became ill on March 28, 1995. Survivors include sons, James Johnson and his wife Fran of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jerry Johnson of Eagle Grove; daughters, Joan Rasmussen of Goldfield, Jana Amdahl and husband Myron, and Joyce Jeanblanc and husband David all of Eagle Grove; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers, LeRoy Babcock and wife Helen of Eagle Grove, and Melvin (Bub) Babcock and wife Betty of Tucson, Arizona; sisters, Mildred Babcock, and Doris Ernst and husband Eugene, all of Humboldt, Millie Iehl of Eagle Grove, and Alice Hill, also of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Marvin, and two sisters, Marie and infant, Beverly Jean.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 15, 1995, at the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran
Church. The Reverend Lyle Peters officiated the 10:30 a.m. services. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa. Willim Funeral Home Ltd., Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
