James Mendel Shaffer
January 20, 1859 ---- May 14, 1931Funeral services for Mendal Shaffer were held Saturday afternoon at the United Presbyterian church the Rev. C. S. Gladfelter officiating. Burial was in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery [Clarion, Iowa].
James Mendal Shaffer was born in Washington county, Iowa, January 20, 1860, [1859] and died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Raymond Hoyt in Lake township, May 14, 1931, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 24 days. His wife preceded him in death some thirteen years ago. Mr. Shaffer was married to Luzetta Kelfhaber [Kiefhaber] at Richland, Iowa, on March 7, 1889. Two children, both of whom survive, were born to them: Ed Shaffer of Dows and Mrs. Raymond Hoyt of Clarion. Other relatives are: one brother, Renz Shaffer of Keota, and two sisters Mrs. Joe Smith of West Chester and Mrs. Nels Newton of Keota. Mr. Shaffer came to Clarion in 1893 and engaged in farming. He lately served as street commissioner. He was a kind husband and father, a good neighbor and friend, respected by a host of friends.
