Leland Girard Allbaugh was born at Leon, Iowa October 6, 1896, the son of William Alvin & Laura Cimantha (Gammon) Allbaugh. He married Cora E. Oleson, December 24, 1919 in Goldfield. He traveled extensively living in Rome, Greece, Crete, Ethiopia, Sudan, Tanzania, Iran, Paraguay, Korea, and Japan from 1944 - 1952 and 1961 - 1968. He was a member of the R.O.T.C. and served in World War I. His last place of employment was with the Tennessee Valley Authority (T.V.A.) as director of agricultural relations. He retired in 1961. He had been active in Methodist churches in Goldfield, Carroll, Ames, and Knoxville, Tenn. He was the recipient of ISU Alumni Association's Distinguished Achievement Citation, was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and a member of the Masons and Eastern Star.
Leland Allbaugh, Ames, died of heart failure April 18, 1991, at the age of 94, at the Green Hills Health Care Center [Ames, Iowa]. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora, who died April 10, 1991; his parents; two brothers, Roland and John; and a sister, Carrie. He is survived by two sons, Robert, Greenbrae, Calif.; and James, Westport, Conn.; four grandchildren; three nieces; and two nephews. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the First United Methodist Church in Goldfield. The Rev. Victor Victoria officiated. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. The Adams Funeral Home, Ames, was in charge of arrangements.
