DeLoris Marie Rexroat Lundvall, 86, of Boxholm, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Bethany Life Communities in Story City. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm. Funeral services will follow immediately at Trinity, of which DeLoris was a member. Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetary east of Boxholm.
DeLoris was born July 22, 1930, to Rufus and Marie (Carlson) Rexroat on a farm near Woolstock, Iowa. She was the first of seven children. The family settled on their own farm near Stratford in 1935, where DeLoris and her siblings were raised. DeLoris graduated with the Stratford High School class of 1947. High school bookkeeping and secretarial classwork prepared DeLoris for employment at Stratford Feed and Grain, where she was employed for nearly 20 years as bookkeeper and clerk. DeLoris met her future husband when a “nice-looking farmer from across the river” visited the co-op to “compare grain prices with those being offered at the co-op in Boxholm”. On September 17, 1960, DeLoris was united in marriage to Paul Luther Lundvall at the Stanhope Christian Church. The couple lived and farmed in the Grant Township area for over 50 years, and DeLoris was a homemaker and manager of the farm’s bookkeeping. DeLoris and Paul were active members of their church and community, where she participated in the church women’s organizations and school parent groups. DeLoris had a dry sense of humor that was usually hidden by her reserved demeanor. She was an avid reader and she kept a daily journal for many years chronicling the family’s daily milestones. She enjoyed music, coffee and conversation with family and friends, watching or listening to sports on TV or radio, and spoiling her kids and grandkids.
Following Paul’s death in 2012 DeLoris moved to the Bethany Life Communities in Story City to be closer to her kids and grandkids. She was blessed to receive the care of staff at Timberland Village before transitioning to Bethany Manor in 2014. DeLoris is survived by her son, John (Sara) Lundvall (Sara) of Ames; three grandchildren, Dillan (Jack) Espeset of Alamosa, CO, and Christian (C.J.) and Julianne Lundvall of Ames; a brother, Don (Marsha) Rexroat of Williams; and four sisters, Shirley (Charlie) Jenner of Los Alamitos, Calif., Gloria Ulrick of Des Moines, Judy Elsberry of Boone and Mary Rexroat of Des Moines. She is also survived by six nieces and 10 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; her daughter, Ann Marie Lundvall; and a brother, Duane Rexroat. Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed toward DeLoris’ family. Written by her son, John Paul Lundvall.
