Violet Martha Pehl was born January 14, 1910, the daughter of Alfred and Florence Pletcher Pehl in Wright County. She received her education in Lake Township Country school, and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in 1927. She was united in marriage to Julius Jacobsen of Jacksonville, Iowa, on December 10, 1931, at the Baptist Parsonage in Goldfield. The couple lived and farmed north of Holmes until moving to Goldfield in 1940. They later moved to Thor in 1951, and then to Eagle Grove in the fall of 1968. She and her husband moved to the Rotary Ann Apartments in Eagle Grove, November 27, 1989. Due to the couple's failing health, they entered the North Rotary Ann Nursing Home on August 30,1991. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, the Martha Circle of the U.M.C. and the Evergreen Association.

Violet Martha Jacobsen died October 30, 1992 at the North Rotary Ann Nursing Home following an extended illness. She had attained the age of 82 years, nine months, and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Anna Jorgenson. She is survived by her husband; one son, Robert and his wife, Kay, of Waukee; a daughter, Mrs. Derwin (Patricia) Lester of Grand Meadow, Minn.; a brother, Alfred Pehl Jr., of Austin, Minn ; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 2 at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Scott C. Hall officiated at the 11 a.m. service. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
