Silas McQuaid was born in Zanesville, Guernsey county, Ohio on November, 5th, 1832 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. W. McCurry, near Renwick, Iowa on January 3, 1913. Age 80 years, 1 month and 29 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Amanda Bishop on January 15th, 1859, She having preceded him to the better land on July 15th seventeen years ago. To this union were born nine children, five sons and four daughters. One son, Samuel, died in infancy, and one daughter, Mrs. F. J. Shellmyer died on December 18, 1909. He was one of a family of ten children of whom only two, one brother and one sister together with the seven children, Mrs. W. W. McCurry, Mrs. W. B. Williams, Mrs. Levi Gustaveson, John, Charles, Joseph and William are left to mourn his loss. Funeral services were held at the W. W. McCurry home Sunday January
5th, at one o'clock conducted by Rev. J. S. Nicholson of Goldfield and was attended by a goodly number of relatives and friends. After the service the body was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the beautiful Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield.
