November 11, 1921 ---- August 5, 2016

Jeannette D. Halvorson, age 94, passed away on Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at Our House in Portage with her family by her side. She was born on Nov. 11, 1921, in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Sedsel (Evenson) Halverson. Jeannette graduated high school at the age of 16, and after two years at Iowa State Teacher's college she taught junior high math and physical education in Lanyon and Kanawha, Iowa from 1940 to 1943. She enlisted in the Navy (Wave's) in 1943, she was a commissioned officer, a Lieutenant Junior Grade, and served in the Communications and Intelligence branch in Washington D. C. until her discharge in 1946. After leaving the Navy, she attended University of Minnesota where she completed a degree in Home Economics and met Kermit Halvorson who was completing a Master's Degree there. After their wedding in August 1948, in Osage, Iowa, they were married for 58 years until Kermit's death in June 2007.

Jeannette is survived by her three children, Paul, Douglas (Pat), Jan (Rishiyur Mohan) Halvorson; grandchildren, Chad (Megan) Burgeson, Erin (Tony) Cuneo, Joseph Halvorson, Arjun Mohan, and Anjali Mohan (Jason Gelbort). She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Olga, Milly, Marian and Evelyn; brothers, Conrad, Harold and Bentley.

A Celebration of Life will be held at GUNDERSON LODI FUNERAL HOME, 157 S. Main St, Lodi, at 2 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 9, 2016, with the Rev. Marion Hendrickson presiding. Interment will be held at Arlington Evangelical Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. A special thank you to the staff at Our House Assisted Living in Portage and to St. Croix Hospice for all the care they gave Jeannette.
