Prominent Hardy Man Dies In Colorado

Thomas Heggen, 65 years old, a retired farmer and resident of Hardy for many years, died suddenly at Greeley, Colorado, last week, Wednesday, July 10. Mr. and Mrs. Heggen left home at Hardy three weeks ago for a vacation trip, motoring to Texas to visit Mr. Heggen's brother, they continued their trip to Greeley, Colorado, where their daughter, Mrs. L. Thompson is located. Before reaching Colorado, Mrs. Heggen was taken seriously ill, and soon after their arrival at their daughter's home, Mr. Heggen went for a walk to a nearby park where he was stricken. He was found by a stranger in the park, and was removed to a hospital, able only to give his name.

Mr. Heggen was born at Slater, Iowa, locating on a farm in the vicinity of Thor forty years ago. He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Nervig, also a resident of the county. After retiring from the farm, the family located in Hardy where Mr. Heggen operated an elevator.

Besides his widow, who is seriously ill, he leaves three children, Mrs. L. Thompson in Greeley, Colorado; Seward Heggen of Thor, and Agnes Heggen, who holds a position at Cedar Rapids. There are also three brothers, Michael, in South Dakota, Lewis in Texas, and Nels Heggen at Estherville.

The funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home in Hardy, and later at Trinity Lutheran church in Lake township, a minister from Eagle Grove Lutheran parish officiating. Burial services were held in the Trinity cemetery located near the church. Relatives who were in attendance at the service included Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Nervig and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. James Nervig.
