Karl “Jim” Stahl, 69, of Clare, IA passed away on Saturday July 16, 2016 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Deer Creek Township with burial following at the Trinity Lutheran Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Jim was born in Fort Dodge on January 7, 1947 to Karl A. and Mary Louise (Brown) Stahl. Jim was baptized on January 14, 1947 at St. Paul Lutheran Church and was confirmed on March 26, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Deer Creek. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School, Trinity Lutheran School and Northwest Webster High School. Jim farmed with his father Karl after attending school. He did custom combining for some of the neighbors and also began his mechanic business H&S Repair on the farm in Deer Creek Township in the mid 1960’s repairing cars, trucks, farm machinery as well as building and fixing sprayers. After his father retired he continued farming the family farm. Jim was united in marriage to Julie Stadtlander on February 16, 1980. Jim enjoyed building late model stock cars from 1968-1976 and in the 80’s and 90’s he built enduro cars that were mainly raced at the Clay County Fair in Spencer. The last car he built was in 2000 for the next generation of racing enthusiasts. He collected and restored tractors, farm machinery and classic cars. Jim had a special group of friends after high school. They called themselves brothers and sisters. They have maintained this friendship even to this day.

Jim is survived by his wife Julie; sisters Louise and Patty (Gary); nieces and nephews Mary, Matthew (Nicole), Janel (Brian), Jason, Kara and Aly; 7 great-nieces and nephews. Parents-in-law Tom and Karen Stadtlander [of Belmond, Iowa] and brother-in-law Todd (Jean) Stadtlander. He was preceded in death by his parents Karl and Mary. Memorials may be left to the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home or the Trinity Lutheran Church Deer Creek Cemetery fund.
