Howard Sherman Harvey was born in Lake Township, Humboldt County, on the family farm west of Goldfield on March 8, 1911, the son of Henry and Mary Peterson Harvey. He graduated from Goldfield High School in 1928. On November 27, 1937, he was united in marriage to Mary Lyon at Norfolk, Neb. They farmed on the Harvey family farm until 1974 and he was a seedcorn salesperson until 1983. They moved to Goldfield in 1984. He lived in Goldfield until January, 1998, when he moved to Willow Pointe, an assisted living community in Mason City. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. He had been active in church activities in the Baptist and Church of Christ churches in Goldfield. He was a 4-H leader in Humboldt County for many years, a Director of Farmers Elevator Cooperative for 9 years, and a member of the Evergreen Sporting Association.

Howard Sherman Harvey died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, at the age of 87. Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Linden, and husband, Eric, Mason City; one son, Tom Harvey, Goldfield; 5 grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary, who died in 1995; and one sister, Helen. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 1998 at the United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield with the Reverend Ellen Brantley officiating. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove is in charge of the arrangements.
