Mary E. Coates, 94, 701 1st Ave. S. W., Clarion, died at 11:30 a. m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 1973 at the Golden Acre Manor, Dows. Mrs. Coates was born at Mount Etna, Iowa Feb. 21, 1879, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Sprague. She moved to Western Kansas as a child. She was married in 1902 at Cedar, Kansas, moved to Clarion in 1924. Her husband and one son preceded her in death. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Cella Cole, Goodland, Kansas, one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Coates, Rosholt, Wisconsin, and two grandsons, Gary, Fort Atkinson, Wis., Robert, Burlington, Mass. and seven great grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews.
