Kay Jean Wilcox was born on August 7, 1936, the daughter of Kenneth and Ada Mourlam Wilcox, at Webster City. She received her education in the Eagle Grove school system and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in 1954. Kay continued her education at the University of Iowa, receiving her Bachelors degree in 1959. She went on to earn her Masters degree at the University of Denver, Colo. Following completion of her schooling, Kay moved to New York. In 1963, she moved to Denver where she was employed at the radio and television station KOA, Denver. In 1968, she started employment at a branch of the City of Denver Library system. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Tri-T and Audubon Societies.

She entered the Cherry Creek Nursing Center in Denver on January 18, following a one month stay at a Denver hospital due to her battle with cancer. Kay Jean Wilcox died at the Nursing Center January 20, 1990 at the age of 53 years, five months, and 13 days. She is survived by her parents; many relatives and close friends. Funeral services were held Friday, January 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Scott C. Hall officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
