Emma Margaret Waddell was born on Sept. 29, 1902 at Eagle Grove, the daughter of Albert and May Jackson Wright Waddell. She attended the Eagle Grove schools and graduated in the class of 1921. She also attended the Des Moines University and graduated in the two year course in education and later received her Bachelor of Science Degree in education and her Masters Degree in Special Education and Supervision from Drake University in Des Moines. She also completed further studies in education at Drake University. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove; the National Retired Teachers Association, the Iowa Retired Teachers Association and the Iowa State Education Association. She taught school for 46 years, of which she taught in Des Moines for 43 years.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister. Miss Waddell died Saturday, Feb. 18, 1984 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, where she had been a patient since Feb. 2. She had been a resident of the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove for the past several months. Funeral services for Emma Waddell, 81, of Eagle Grove, were held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1984 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Rev. Roland Beck of the Baptist Church officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held on Monday at the funeral home.
