R. V. Diggins, teacher dies
Ronald V. Diggins, former vocational agriculture instructor at Eagle Grove high school died Oct 18 in Marshalltown from complications of a stroke. He was a teacher in Eagle Grove for 28 years from 1941 through 1969. He was author of several books on agriculture, a honorary Iowa Master Swine Producer and received numerous awards as an outstanding FFA advisor and VoAg instructor.
Funeral services for Diggins were held in Marshalltown last Thursday. Masonic services were held in Eagle Grove Thursday night with funeral services at the First United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove Friday afternoon. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.
Diggins was born in Amarillo, Texas and raised and educated in rural Melbourne, Iowa. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1925 and from Iowa State University in 1930. He received his masters degree from Iowa State in 1941. He taught vocational agriculture in South Dakota schools until coming to Eagle Grove in 1941. He retired in 1969 and moved to Marshalltown in 1970. He married O. Lenore Alban in 1929. She died in 1965. In 1966 he married Elsa Diggins of Portland, Oregon. Survivors include his wife Elsa, sons Ronald in Circle Pines, Minn., Rodney in Marshalltown, daughters Karen Kos in St. Charles, Mo., Janine Johnson in Omaha, Neb., 10 grandchildren, two step - grandchildren and a sister Katherine Nichol of Melbourne.
