LELAND, IA — Paul M. Johanson, age 70, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2016, surrounded by his family at his home in rural Leland, IA. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with Father Jim Young of St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating. Paul’s family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service, 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Albert Lea Hospice in care of Set Memories Aglow Donations, 1705 SE Broadway St., Albert Lea, MN, 56007.
Paul Michael Johanson was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to O.R. “Bud” and Amy Deloris “Dolly” (Oakland) Johanson on October 18, 1945. He attended and graduated from Dows High School and went on to graduate from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. On July 20, 1973, Paul was united in marriage with Melissa McCullough in Dows, Iowa.
Paul dedicated many years of service as a manufacturing engineer at Winnebago Industries. He loved farming, woodworking, fishing, gardening, driving for the Lake Mills City Transit, and sitting on his deck with his bride of 42 years. Paul will be remembered for his signature laugh, his kindness to others, and his Christian Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa Johanson of Leland, IA; daughter Sarah (Steve) Boblenz of Grimes, IA; son Matthew (Lisa) Johanson of Wasilla, AK; and four grandchildren, Evie Boblenz, Aidan Johanson, Alec Boblenz, and Kyla Johanson. Paul is also survived by five siblings, Dennis (Gloria) Johanson of Britt, IA, Mark (Jackie) Johanson of Duchesne, UT, Diane (Rich) Ryerson of Pella, IA, Cindy (Wyman) Wilson of Vancouver, WA, and John Johanson of Chicago, IL; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece Andrea Johanson; and a nephew Aaron Johanson.
