The death of Grandma McVicker occurred last week Wednesday, at the home of her son, G. C. McVicker. Several months ago she fell and broke her hip from which date she gradually failed.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal Church Friday afternoon, Rev. Reginald D. Acheson in charge. The music was furnished by mixed quartette composed of L. P. Eversz, H. A. Wetter, Mrs. Schoenhair, and Miss Chandler, and Miss McDonough, accompanist.

Ellen L. Torrey was born at Saratoga, N.Y., March 18, 1831, and died at Eagle Grove, Iowa, Dec. 13th, 1919. She lived 85 years 8 months, 3 weeks and 4 days. She moved with her parents to Peoria, Ill. when about twelve years of age. She was converted under her pastor, Richard Haney and joined the Methodist church at the age of fourteen years. After this she moved to Henry, Marshall county, Ill. with her parents. She was united in marriage to George D. McVicker, November 9, 1848, who preceded her in death September 9, 1903. To this union were born eight children, three of whom are still living: Mrs. Nellie Lowe of Iola, Kans., Ira D. and Chester of Eagle Grove. In addition to this she leaves ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

She was a very devote nature and it was her constant endeavor to teach her children the eternal principles of right living. She was charitable and generous to a fault. She endured hardships and privations without a complaint and was a true and faithful helpmate to her husband. She was a tender, affectionate, and loving mother and her children will never cease to reverence her memory.

They moved to Eagle Grove in October, 1890, where she has resided ever since. She has been a faithful member of the Methodist church.
