January 31, 1867 ---- May 12, 1918
The death of Mrs. Bert Magill, which resulted from an illness of more than five weeks, three of which confined her to her bed, came as a great shock to her many friends and relatives.
Eliza May Schoonover was born in Owego, N. Y., on Jan. 31, 1867, and departed this life on the evening of May 12, 1918. When a young girl she came with her parents to this place and has made her residence here since. She was married to Bert Magill on March 15, 1892. To this union two children were born, one daughter, who died in infancy, and one son, Albert. Besides the son and husband, Mrs. Magill is survived by one foster daughter, Laura, by her father, O. A. Schoonover, and by five brothers, Oscar and Elmer, of Whitefish, Mont.; Fred, of Cherokee, Iowa, and Howard and Harry of this place. Deceased was a member of the local W. R. C. and united with the Baptist church of this place in the early days of its existence. Recent expressions made by the departed indicated that she was still interested. Deceased was a member of the local which it stands. Another of the old settlers has gone. She will be sadly missed, as wife, mother and neighbor.
Funeral services were held from the Baptist church on Wednesday, the sermon being by the pastor, Rev. Hugh Moore.
Alas, how little do we appreciate a mother's tenderness while living! How heedless are we in youth of all her anxieties and kindness! But when she is dead and gone; when the cares and coldness of the world come withering to our hearts; when we experience how hard it is to find true sympathy, how few love us for ourselves, how few will befriend us in our misfortunes, then we think of our mother that loved us, and to her our hearts turn yearningly.
